How to Create a Sensational One-Pager People Want To Read

a marketing guy in a suit with a one pager

Been invited to one of those networking events where you don’t know anyone?

You stand there, awkwardly sipping your drink.

Watching the room like a hawk and trying hard not to run for the exit.

Then you spot him walking towards you.

Big smile as he strides. Hands already outstretched, reaching for a handshake.

Before you even finish shaking hands, you already know his name, where he’s from, what he does, who he works for, their products, and services, and that he has a three-legged Beagle named, Chip.

All this in under 2 minutes! How efficient!

Great one-pagers work the same way!

What’s a One-Pager?

A single-page document that tells potential clients who you are, what you do, and what your brand or business is all about.

Also called a one-sheet, it’s designed to capture attention fast and offer information in a bite-sized, digestible way. One pagers are designed to be visually appealing, so it’s convenient for busy people to read and understand without bogging them with long explanations.

Different Kinds of One-Pagers

You can have different types of one-sheets, depending on what you need at the moment. Here are some of the most common ones:

Company One Sheet

Created to introduce your company to clients, partners, or anyone curious about your business, the company one sheet tells a short history or overview of your company. Include what you do, what you stand for, and what you offer.

Sales One Pager

Want to sell something? A sales one-pager is made to grab attention by stressing the features and benefits of a service or product. It’s designed to show how your product or service can solve your prospects’ problems.

Brand One Pager

This captures your brand’s personality on one page. It can contain your mission, values, and distinct voice. This is great for making sure everyone’s on the same page about your brand, from your partners to your team members, and to give them a clear view of how your brand should be represented.

Business Plan One Sheet

Perfect as an internal document, the business plan one sheet summarizes your whole business plan into one document. This gives a high-level view of your strategy, goals, and business model so it becomes a quick reference for partners, team members, and potential investors.

Marketing One Pager

A good marketing strategy is essential for any brand. Creating a marketing one-pager people want to read is like having a handy cheat sheet. It contains your key messages, the audience, and the marketing channels you are targeting. This is likely an internal document.

Product or Service One Pager

Designed to spotlight a product or service, this lists the unique features of what you’re offering, why it is better than others, and how it works. This helps customers make an informed decision on whether to pick you or not.

One Page Report

Shared with stakeholders, team members, investors, or bosses, the one-page report summarizes any metrics, key insights, or results you want to share. It gets to the point without any fluff, making it perfect for monthly, quarterly, or annual report meetings.

Event One Pager

Usually handed out at the start of events or conventions, an event one-pager has everything your attendees need to know. This should contain the who’s who, the what, the where, and when (or any other relevant detail) about what’s happening in the event.

What Your One-Pager Should Include

Brand Overview

Every one pager has to contain information about your brand. This is who you are and what you do. After all, you don’t just come up to someone, and start selling them something, without even introducing your name! You can also include a short version of your brand story to capture what you’re about.

Logo and Other Key Visual Elements

Use brand colors, logos, or specific typography that you use for your visuals. Reinforce your brand identity through the layout and design. This is important if your one-pager is to be given to customers or potential investors since it can create brand recognition.

Add a Specific Person To Contact

Maybe it’s a specific sales rep, a particular email address, or a specific social media handle, giving your potential customers, investors, or anyone interested a way to reach someone in your business.

Your Products or Services

This depends on the type of one-pager you’re creating, but most brand one-pager needs to mention what products or services you are bringing to the table. After all, how can someone buy or use your service if you don’t let them know what you’re offering?

A Compelling USP (Unique Selling Proposition)

Selling something or reinforcing your brand’s identity means getting your USP right. You can summarize your unique selling proposition, describing what makes your product or service unique from the competition. Speak to your target audience, hit their pain points, and show them how you can solve their problems.

Case Studies or Testimonials

A short testimonial on your one-pager can speak volumes about your brand’s reliability. It lets your audience know you have done this before or that someone’s happy with the product or service you’ve given.

Call To Action or CTA

Whether it’s to prompt a meeting or to go to a website, you want your one-pager to inspire action. Your one-pager is like your elevator pitch, so make sure to propel your target audience to do something in the end.

Create a Visually Pleasant Design

A thoughtful and aesthetic layout can make your one-pager something people want to read. The worst thing is to have them just stuff it into their pockets and forget about it.

Consult a graphic designer to design your one sheet visually. The design you create needs to support the brand and not just look pretty for the sake of looking pretty. Make use of visual storytelling and balance the text and visuals so one doesn’t overwhelm the other.

Don’t forget the main purpose of the one-pager is to provide an overview. Avoid clutter and make thoughtful use of white space.

Examples of One-Pagers for Real Clients

Concord Medical Group – Service One Sheet Design

The Concord Medical Group is run by doctors who really care about quality. They wanted a better way to reach new customers at events so we partnered with them and created a set of one-sheets that make their services easy to understand and quick to read.

These one-sheets are designed for following up after events, giving potential customers a handy, attractive overview of what Concord Medical Group offers—all in one simple page.

Trustream Internet – Business Sales Marketing Materials / One-Pager Service Sheets

In 2021, we created a sales kit for TrueStream Internet that included service sheets and client testimonials, all put together in a custom folder with handy tabs. It’s been so effective that it’s been updated and reprinted multiple times.

We used infographics, branded fonts, and icons to make the info clear and visually attractive. The result? A professional, eye-catching tool that keeps drawing new business for TrueStream!

Where to Distribute Your Brand One-Page?

So you have your one-pager ready, where do you use them? There are a couple of best practices when it comes to distributing your one sheet effectively. He

re are a few routes:

  • Trade Shows or Events: Preparing physical copies of your one sheet is great for handing out at events and trade shows. It’s perfect for networking and provides you with something physical to hand out, which helps reinforce your brand presence.
  • Make It Available as a Website Download: You can use your one sheet as a PDF download on your website. Depending on how robust it is, you can also turn it into a lead generation piece.
  • Share it via Email: You can use the one-pager as a free download during targeted email campaigns.
  • Meetings or Conferences: Whether it’s team meetings or an important conference with investors, you can offer a one-pager as a way to share information clearly with those attending.

Wrapping Up

You know you’ve created a great one-sheet or one-pager when it gets you results. Whether that’s more sales, more sign-ups, or just communicating what you need clearly and efficiently, an effective one-pager will deliver.

Getting started on creating a one-pager people want to read might seem overwhelming, but there’s no need to panic.

Think of your one-pager as a cheat sheet for your brand. Everything is right there in a quick and easy-to-digest format. Focus on clarity so you get your message across. Speak to your audience and don’t forget to add visual flair to make it appealing to read.

Show off what makes your brand, product, or service stand out and invite your audience to connect with you.

Before you know it, you’ll be the one confidently approaching strangers at parties, one-pager on hand and ready to share.

Now that’s smooth!
