How Canva Graphics Are Hurting How Your Customers View Your Brand

Consumers are exposed to as many as 6,000-10,000 advertisements per day.

With so many marketing materials available across various platforms, how are you making your business stand out?

Marketing professionals have to create unique and customized content. Repeat concepts and graphics will tire consumers and make them less likely to pay attention to your message.

Tools such as Canva are appealing to businesses. The ease of use and ready-to-insert images can make graphic design a breeze – but is Canva worth the convenience?

Canva graphics may be hurting how your customers view your brand. Keep reading to learn how this tool may be working against you.

Canva Is Limiting

Canva allows you to create designs quickly. There are Canva templates for almost any type of media you would need to design. These templates are pre-loaded with graphic elements to help nearly anyone develop content quickly.

While this is convenient, relying on templates limits your own creativity. Templates can only be customized so much, leaving some designs feeling overdone or repetitive.

Canva is missing some key design features (like allowing you to bold text mid-sentence) that would allow you to do more with your images. What you’re able to create on Canva is restricted to its small range of tool options. This might cause you to scale back on out-of-the-box ideas.

Legality Issues

Canva comes with its own set of licensing issues. There are plenty of free graphic elements and stock images available to use. The catch is that stock images cannot be used as part of a logo or trademark design.

These stock images also may contain embedded copyright notices. You are prohibited from removing them.

Certain stock images may be labeled “Editorial Use Only.” These images cannot be used for any promotional or commercial designs. This includes designs published only on social media.

Creating designs that have restrictions on usage can be damaging to brand awareness since you can’t use all designs for any purpose.

Many Canva Graphics Are Overused

If you have access to thousands of free elements, templates, and graphics, so does every other business.

It’s common to see the same designs featured in multiple social media posts and website graphics. This takes individuality away from your business’s visual materials.

Marketing consultants recommend against Canva because your design is guaranteed to contain elements used by other businesses.

Lack of Key Design Features

While Canva is great for quick designing, its lack of features is limiting.

There are no gridlines, and it is notorious for not adjusting to exact angles or spacing. This can affect the precision of the design, making graphics look unprofessional.

Canva also lacks in other areas, such as applying shadows or working with gradients. It’s good for low-level infographics, but it’s nearly impossible to produce a high-depth design on Canva.

Use Graphics That Are Unique to You

Communication is an important part of brand awareness. Visual elements of your designs should reflect your business, and uniqueness will help you stand apart from the rest and create your own identity for customers.

While Canva graphics can’t launch your brand’s visual materials to the next level, graphic designers can create unique imagery consistent with your brand’s tone.
